GERRY KEON
Keon was born in Dorset. He studied painting at Hornsey College of Art and the Byam Shaw College of Art, London.
Keon's recent working procedures begin with the construction of simple elements requiring the exercise of rudimentary carpentry skills.
Combinations of materials define the colour and tonal range of his artworks and provide the technical means to make successive layers. The processes of rubbing and abrading, scraping and scribing, filling and polishing, eventually result in a patina not unlike objects marked by chance and the usages of time.
The end result which bears little or no resemblance to the original ‘idea’ arises with its own inevitability from the debris of the studio floor where the artist scavenges like a beachcomber in the flotsam and jetsam of his own making.
