BILL CARTER

From 1970–'74 Bill Carter studied Fine Art at Ravensbourne College of Art, where he became fascinated by the complexity and possibilities of silkscreen printing.

The 80's saw the launch of a successful career in the music industry; Carter's band 'The Screaming Blue Messiahs' was, in Bill's own words, 'a sort of noisy, out of tune, blues band'.

Now Bill has returned his focus to fine art practice with this exciting series of giclée prints. The subject matter of the series is deeply immersed in American culture. The artist picks up on the optimistic, 'go-getting' sort of energy and vibe that he feels the Americans exude in bucket loads.

He is a big fan of American film, television, radio, cars, architecture , design... and the very scale of the country itself. Pollock, Warhol, Lichenstein and Rauchenberg all inform Bill Carter's art practice, but all the more so, because he has lived and breathed the same air.
